Program Code: CC.PHLEBOTOMY
This program accepts 16 students per cohort with two cohorts per academic year. Students will either start in Fall or Spring. Students must complete an online program application. Detailed information and application can be found on the program webpage.
The program provides students with the necessary knowledge and skills to obtain entry-level employment as a phlebotomist within a healthcare setting. The program will prepare students to step into their roles as responsible, productive members of their communities.
Upon the completion of the program, students will be eligible for phlebotomy certification (CPT) through the National Healthcare Association (NHA). The program is designed to include online learning paired with in-person skills labs, followed by a clinical practicum.

Program Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, students should be able to:
- safely perform high-quality blood collection through venipuncture and capillary puncture procedures;
- demonstrate correct collection, processing, and handling of laboratory specimens according to current laboratory protocols;
- understand and comply with legal and ethical standards, as well as laboratory safety, quality, and regulatory standards;
- demonstrate knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology pertaining to phlebotomy;
- describe the concepts of communication, personal and patient interaction, stress and time management, and professional behavior in healthcare settings;
- prepare for the credentialing process and employment in the community.

The Phlebotomy (PHB) Program requires students to complete an online application form located on the Phlebotomy Program Website. Accepted students are required to attend a mandatory orientation prior to starting.
Accepted students in all health sciences programs with a clinical component must meet Oregon Health Authority Rules for Students in Clinical Settings. These include:
- Screenings - Criminal Background Check, Drug Screen, Tuberculosis (TB) Blood Test
- Immunizations - Tdap, Varicella, MMR, Hep B, Covid-19 (recommended), flu (recommended)
- Certifications - BLS/CPR for Healthcare Providers through the American Heart Association
- HP-100 Healthcare Provider BLS/CPR, First Aid/Bloodborne Pathogens satisfies this requirement

Disclaimer: Clinical training is required in order to complete certain Health Sciences programs offered by Clackamas Community College (CCC). Although CCC does not restrict program entry based on age, some college partners, such as healthcare agencies, organizations, and clinics, require students to be at least 18 years of age before they can participate in clinical training. Students who intend to enroll prior to reaching 18 years of age should consult with the appropriate Health Sciences program director or administrator to determine when clinical training begins for their program and to understand any limitations.
